MECHANIC/TECHNICIAN

Summary:

This position is responsible for the maintenance, safety, and long-term care of the organization’s fleet of vehicles.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all company vehicles in a safe, efficient and effective running order.

  • Must be available to repair agency vehicles and/or tow vehicles to the company facility at any time during operating hours.

  • Maintain maintenance records for vehicles.

  • Maintain current and accurate inventory.

  • Attend seminars and update mechanical knowledge through training and educational sessions.

  • Possess knowledge and adhere to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and anti-pollution laws as they apply to vehicles and the facility.

  • Keep garages organized, clean and provide building and yard maintenance when required.

  • Perform any and all functions of a Driver as needed.

  • Other reasonably related duties.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to nine months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of three years experience in vehicle maintenance.

  • Must be able to obtain the proper CDL license (commercial drivers’ license with an air brake and wrecker endorsement) prior to the end of the training.

  • Must meet and maintain all requirements for DOT physical examination including drug and alcohol test.

  • State of Michigan certification in various vehicle maintenance fields

  • Must pass written driving test and road test.

  • Must maintain an excellent driving record.

 

 

Computer Skills: Knowledge of internet software, manufacturing software, Outlook email and Microsoft Office Suite.

 

Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; talk or hear and taste or smell. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions on occasion. The employee may be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee maybe exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
